I had done a portable ps 7. I had mine called Portable PS 7. The reason being that Adobe has a policy that anytime in press, in the titles, on the internet, wherever, photoshop or any of it programs, are mentioned it must be mentioned thusly: Adobe Photoshop CS2 and the TM sign.

Basically a suable offense if they wanted to. Also the License of adobe states that the program is to be installed on one PC locally, there is no license for a remote version, so if someone at adobe finds out and wants to push it, that can state you are breeking license agreements, and you could get in trouble.

I know, probably won’t happen to such a small site as this, but in this world. You can read the trademark info here: Adobe Trademark Policy. I am not trying to disuade you from this work, just letting you in on information that is very much, in this day and age, important. Example: Just to give you an idea of where I am coming from, after I made Portable PS 7, I released only the launcher code, and strictly stated that a copy of Photoshop 7 must be owned nby the user, following a policy what I thought would work, because I was not distributing the software.

But someone out in the interweb, downloaded the launcher, added the full photoshop 7 program to it, removed all warnings of the ownership and copyrights, and then uploaded it to a torrent site. They also left my name in the source code that was with the launcher. Basically making it look like I created it and distributed it.

After that was downloaded many times, someone used the same code to build CS and CS2, and left my name in again. In the end, and actually still going, there are all versions of Photoshop out in the torrent world that have my name attached to full distrbutions of the launcher and program, with no warnings of copyrights, just a readme saying “Enjoy!

If it gets to big, Adobe could sue me badly. I am not in a good position to defend myself. As of now, I have heard nothing, and hope it is dying down, and it will just disappear in the interweb’s deep dark cavernous caves. So trust me, be very careful what you do. People could use yours to build the program, attach your name to it and do the same thing they did to me, yes it is a slight chance, but it is a chance.

Just a friendly warning. I didnt know about those rules so ill deleat the download and re upload it but Am I not aloud to Say it creates a portable version I use only the info on the local micene that it runs on. I am not infringing any copyright laws.

If I deleat the data file and reg settings after the make and remove it when you close the app it would not infringe the It has to be installed on the local machene so it technicly is being installed right?? Just make sure you are following trademark and license policy and there will be no problem. Probably wouldn’t be a problem anyway, but it is good you know know. Do I have to uninstall it from the make computer or do I just need to uninstall it from the host??? I would just make it so it unistalls.

I wouldnt use this on my home computer because its already installed there but I would like to use it one other computers I might use and once Im done there, there shouldnt be any files left on the other computer. Or maybe make an option to chose to delete the files on close like when you start the bat file check 1 to delete on close or 2 not to delete, but if you cant it should uninstall by default.

The idea this site presented of portability seemed so cool to me that I had decided to immediately start development on an application before learning what exactly was going on in the existing products it seemed like nobody else was close to a CS2 solution.

Currently I am working in AutoIt to complete a simple and easy tool which guides you through all the steps I outlined here previously; that way, in a matter of a few clicks, you can have created your own “Portable” folder and all the necessary assemblage. The tool will include options for selecting specific components and eventually it will also contain descriptions for each of those components.

We work on opensource free programs, or those covered under and OSI approved license. If you want to make CS2 portable, you just need to use regmon and find out where the registry settings are located. It should write the saved registry entries to the registry start the program, and then on shutdown save the settings and delete them from the registry, or something like that. The only thing I wonder is the activation file which is “machine-based” and doesn’t work on another computer. This is then not truly “portable” unless you have already developed a bypass which I’m not aware of.

Well, I’ve found a download for portable CS2 which is MB in size with upx and I’ve confirmed that it works for sure. Also, I tried it and it came to 33MB. What am I doing wrong?
